About

Welcome to Orn – a complex Dungeons and Dragons campaign which offers a whole series of adventures in a strange and remarkable setting

Orn Magic

On Orn, there are already a few spells which are not found in any standard D&D handbook.  Additionally, some standard spells behave differently on Orn.  The player-characters may also invent their own additional spells.

This page describes the magic spells which are unique to the Orn setting.  Other pages describe the Alternative Magic Specialisation System, and the contents of one or two spell books.

First Level Spells

Stearth's Surpassing Excellence of Beer

1st-level transmutation (ritual)

Casting Time: 1 minute

Range: 20 feet

Components: V, S, M (a handful of yeast and sugar)

Duration:  3 months, or until all of the beer is consumed - whichever is the sooner.

Invented by the great hydromancer Stearth, this spell improves the quality and flavour of up to thirty large barrels of beer.

The spell is cast at the barrels before any beer has been drunk from them.  The result is beer which:

Has a remarkable and excellent flavour for each drinker

Feels sufficient to Medium-sized drinkers after four pints (Add or remove two pints for size adjustments up or down.  A half pint is sufficient for a tiny fey).

Is generally cheering; it does not cause depression or violent mood swings, and

Causes no hangover or other ill-effects in the morning

If the improved beer is not consumed within three months, it is transformed into a repellent, malty sludge.

There has been some speculation on what the effect would be if this spell were cast using a higher-level spell slot, but to date the experiment has not been tried.
